I am a new student of the Art. Has anyone got an opinion on where the Art is going?
What will happen when Hatsumi passes away etc. He is only human after all.

Hatsumi human? I doubt it!

I think the art is growing daily, and i see great things in its future. :P I'm sure Hatsumi has already planned out who is to be his successor, it would be dumb of him not to do so. As for who that is, i have no idea.

His successor will be Japense. Or he could say 'stuff it, I've taught you arses long enough go and figure it out for yourselves.'
How cool would that be Hatsumi throwing a blinder on a death bed. The Bujinkan would collapse in the bickering and upheaval.
Lone clubs sprouting up,it would be dog eat dog and a new Ninja World born ha ha ha ha ha.

Maybe.

I perfer not to even think about anything happening to Soke. I am sure though he has already choosen his new child to prep and groom. It would then be that person's choice what the future of the Bujinkan would be.

thank you all for your opinions. I would welcome an opinion from a japanese bujinkan member, of a high rank.

Vinny, my friend I don't think you will get one.
Because it's only us few, who stand for what we know and how to apply it, to truly understand in our own countries, a Japenese Shihan is rare to find. But would they understand our culture of today or live in the past of what thay have been taught

Well, as the old saying goes, those who forget the past are destined to repeat it. I'm not sure if that definately is the right phrase for this, but i think u guys get the drift. Basically, if its been working for hundreds of years, its still gonna work today. :)

I agree wholeheartedly! I read a thing by Hayes in which he said that when we are fighting we must be in the 'now' and not thinking what we are going to do after he does something. Because in the end, he might not do it. :P

I am very disappointed about the response to my original message, perhaps steve has a point. I have to say I do worry about the future. Hatsumi is waiting for a new student to carry Takamatsu's legacy forward. It is obvious to a blind man, the year 2004 is really important for the bujinkan and to Hatsumi in parfticular.

What response were you looking for? If you were trying to find who his successor is..i'm not sure any of us, or anyone else knows who it is yet.

I am not trying to find out who the successor to Hatsumi, will be. I will respect whatever decision is made and honour it.I am however cautious about this, fact is there is anyone at present in the Bujinkan, who has got what it takes to carry on the legacy. That is why Hatsumi wants students to travel to Japan to train.

In short is there anyone who has got what it takes to train with Hatsumi, every weekend for 15 years, etc and make the necessary sacrifices, etc. And most importantly be able to support themselves.
